The Savoy Hotel is a boutique accommodation offering located in Nelson, BC. Our beautiful hotel is equipped with a sauna, common area, and rooftop patio (including a hot tub)! It is located right in the heart of downtown Nelson on Baker Street.

The Guest Services & Marketing Intern will provide exceptional guest services in accordance with the hotel’s core values, mission, standards, and policies. They will perform all check-in and check-out tasks at the hotel front desk, as well as assist with housekeeping. In addition, they will work with management to create a Marketing strategy over the Summer.

This position is funded by the Columbia Basin Trust Summer Works program and will be 35 hours per week from May – Sept.  As this position is grant funded, we are seeking an applicant that meets the funding criteria below.

The successful applicant must:

-Live in the Columbia Basin area, at least during the employment period
-Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
-Be fully 15 years of age or older.
-Be currently a full-time student or part-time due to the pandemic.


Guest Services (90% of work)

-Manage online and phone reservations, collecting necessary guest information, and verifying payment methods.
-Welcome guests upon their arrival and assign rooms.
-Be well-versed in the different room types, rates and hotel amenities.
-Assist with hotel housekeeping, ensuring laundry is done and that all rooms are clean and tidy prior to guest arrival.
-Troubleshoot guest issues and identify when to escalate situations to the hotel manager.
-Up-sell hotel services when appropriate.
-Perform additional duties as needed to ensure optimum guest satisfaction.

Marketing (10% of work)

-Social media updates on Facebook and Instagram.
-Website updates including room rate promotions and blogs.
-Managing the Marketing email inbox.
-Responding to hotel reviews on various booking platforms.
-Actively identify ways to improve the guest experience.
-Identify advertising opportunities in outdoor/adventure-related publications and key travel/tourism websites.
-Identify marketing opportunities with key tourism partners such as Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism, Kootenay-Rockies Chamber of Commerce, etc.
-Research cross-promotional opportunities with local businesses and adventure operators.


-A diploma or degree in hospitality management, or working towards a related credential
-Meets the Summer Works Funding Eligibility Criteria
-Prior experience in the hotel/tourism industry. Work experience as a Hotel Front Desk Agent, Receptionist, Housekeeper or similar role is preferred, as is experienced with hotel reservations software.
-Outgoing personality, positive attitude and dedication to providing a great customer experience.
-Honesty and integrity with a passion for hospitality.
-Computer skills, must learn WebRezPro for hotel reservations
-Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
-Able to work both independently and as part of a team with strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
