On Wednesday March 1st we will be hosting a fundraiser for a group of Nursing at Selkirk College students that are aiming to get to Guatemala for a health practice retreat, by throwing a party and enlisting a group of their friends to DJ! DeBlock, Mister Leon + Rob Leland have all signed on, and entrance will be by donation, with a minimum suggested donation of $10 at the door.

A word from the students:
• We are a group of eight senior Selkirk College nursing students that will be participating in a four week community health practice experience this coming May in Guatemala, Central America. We will be actively participating in programs to support youth leadership in healthy living, dental health, hygiene, women’s health, and diabetes prevention/management with our Guatemalan partners. This experience will be invaluable to us, and we will be bringing this newfound knowledge and experience and apply it back here, in our own community. Our goal is to raise $24,000 dollars to help support us in this experience in community partnership between the nursing school and our partners in Guatemala.

•• DeBlock ••

A true puppet master of the dance floor, this flawless dj has an undeniable sixth sense for reading a room and delivering what it needs. Whether it be soulful disco or high-energy electro, Mark is your guy. Deblock manages to keep things forever fresh by ferociously digging, always keeping a step ahead of the electronic music world. The end result being an extensive catalogue of bouncers, bangers, and B-sides. Though his heart belongs to House music, you can expect injections of funk, hip-hop, even D’n’B–if he is feeling squirrelly–in every one of this talented performer’s meticulously crafted sets.

•• Mister Leon ••

DJ Mister Leon has been deep into the underground dance scene since the late 90s, moving to Nelson from Vancouver at the ripe age of 15. Now 37 and well seasoned, his recent entry into the Kootenay scene is definitely better late than never. His selection of deep, melodic, and funky house, sometimes diving into the bumpy, tech side of grooves will always keep your feet moving and mouth grinning!

•• Rob Leland ••

Originally from Alberta, Rob has since moved to Nelson BC where he has joined the local house music scene playing at events such as the Deep Forest Gathering, Whitewater Year Ender and New Years Eve at a major local venue. On stage, Rob delivers a sound rooted in deep house with elements of tech and progressive house. His sets weave together tracks featuring melodic vocals and feel good instrumental melodies while taking time to fill out the bottom end with cruising heavy bass to make you drop down low and get your eagle on. Bringing back songs discovered while traveling in nightclubs from Bali to Santiago, Rob’s stoke for new and heartfelt music is obvious in the huge smile you’ll see from behind the decks while sending out fresh and undiscovered tracks to the dance floor.
