As the weather grows colder and Nelson’s housing market becomes even more exclusive and daunting, the Nelson CARES Society is passing the final miles of their Room To Live fundraising initiative for the renewal of Ward Street Place residences. And so on this evening, not only are we welcoming one of the west coast’s funkiest DJs to Bloom Nightclub for his debut performance, but we will also be raising a substantial amount of funds for Room To Live, A Nelson CARES Renewal Project for Ward Street Place. For more info on this initiative, follow this link: http://nelsoncares.ca/room-live/

By renovating each rental unit one by one and offering subsidized housing to members of the community that are in need, the Society is effectively offering safe, stable and affordable housing as a means of transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. The Shambhala Music Festival will be stepping in to make an extra 50 tickets to their sold out 20th Anniversary Event in August 2017 available to patrons of this event. At a cost of $500 each (payable with cash, credit or debit), each ticket will come complete with waived early entry fees, sold at a limit of one-per-person, with the entirety of the proceeds going directly to the the Room To Live program (minus transaction/credit card fees incurred). Note that we will also be making a subsequent 50 tickets available on Fri Oct 21 at the Meowmix show as well.

Doors will open at 10pm with the tickets going on sale at downstairs at Bloom as of 10:30pm. Tickets to the DJ Slynk show where these tickets will be made available are now on sale now at The Falls Music Lounge, with the first batch of earlybird tickets starting at just $10. Yes, you must buy a ticket/pay entry to the Slynk show to be eligible to buy one of the Shambhala Music Festival tickets. Yes, you must be present to purchase a festival ticket – no online sales, no holds, one per person. Note that we will ALSO be giving one ticket to #Shambhala2017 away for free as a prize on the night – the ticket will be given away around 12:30am before Slynk hits the stage, going to the funkiest, most colourful and outlandish rave costume in the dance. We will be selecting finalists earlier in the night though, so don’t be too late!

•• Slynk ••

Naturally gifted with a musical ear, Evan aka Slynk flirted at first with a range of classical instruments including piano, guitar and drums, but it’s when He started experimenting with sampling and sound design that the wheels were ultimately set in motions.

From his first gigs in an underground New York inspired café in his hometown of Brisbane, to his first International appearance at Shambala’s Fractal Forest, in 2009, 5 years had gone by 5 years spent refining his skills and experimenting and educating himself and his fans with mash up productions of classic hip hop, ingrained with rare and funky, rhythmically savvy grooves.

With the overwhelming support and love from the world’s most respected funky breaks producers behind him, Slynk’s reputation has been growing strong with now numerous releases on several labels under his belt – Jalapeno Records, Goodgroove Records, and DiscoCakes, just to name a few.

His timeless nufunk electro boogie bravado has met the public with an overwhelming enthusiasm, climbing the charts in more than one occasion as in the case of the robust bass treatment and hippunishing live drum swing He reserved for his rework of Ed Solo & Deekline‘s “No No No!” that comfortably sat at number one in Juno’s best Selling Single Chart.

His fourth appearance at Fractal Forest in 2013 brought his unstoppable Forward Momentum to a new level with a set that not only constitutes his best credentials to day but also consecrated his name to the West Coast Funk Nation.

Nothing more than another step in spreading his instantsmileprovokingsupreme’80sfunkflavored boogie, Slynk moved to British Columbia at the beginning of the summer of 2013 to complete his conquering of the New World and, as an Ambassador of Funk, he is now getting ready to share his love for music with the rest of the world.

•• Fattycakes ••

Fattycakes love for Vinyl started while he was living out east, but not until he moved to Nelson and emerged himself in its vibrant nightlife, did his journey as a DJ begin.

Over the years he focused on digging the crates to build his extensive repertoire. Expect to hear a blend of funk ,hip hop and electro house in which he creates an atmosphere thats brings a smile to your face and leaves you in your happy place.
Fattycakes has been performing at Unity Music Festival for the past three years and made his debut at Shambhala Music Festival in the Fractal Forestthis summer.

•• Ben Fox Music ••

“Purveyor of deep, infectious dance grooves and a feel-good atmosphere.”

That’s how Ben Fox describes himself as a DJ. Never afraid to go too deep or switch styles, his emotive musical selections are his own therapy. Having grown up on his father’s eclectic record collection and later inspired by his own love of hip hop and dance music, Ben has ended up with a mixed spectrum of musical influence. Today, this translates into sets where he picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of music that he loves best: beautiful synth work, ethereal backdrops, brooding basslines, and occasional vocal hooks.

As an active member of his local community in Nelson BC, Ben is no stranger to the peaks and valleys of a small-town with a big music scene. Though he loves playing in nightclubs and festivals, his love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes. As a producer, MC, and turntablist, he has found plenty of ways to express himself musically.

Ben’s most mentionable enactments include performing at Shambhala Music Festival and opening for some of the biggest names in the industry such as Method Man, Flux Pavilion and Zion I.

Ben Fox will transport your mind and soul to a sonic paradise that, while leaving you exhausted, will also leave you feeling strangely re-invigorated.
